The Doctor wants a 'stool sample'...

Very funny...

Do you remember the first time you were asked?

I thought I was going to die of embarrassment, and even more so when I actually had to bring 'it' in to the office, at a later time.  I think I was 14 years old the first time my G.I. requested one of me.  The day I brought it back I felt as if I was smuggling something illegal into my doctor!   I hardly new what to say other than, 'OK', when I presented the receptionist my brown paper bag, with it's unusual contents.

It's a necessary, and says a lot about us... If you don't know, a stool analysis is a series of tests done on a stool (feces) sample to help diagnose certain conditions affecting the digestive tract.  So, if you've never had one or wondered why the Doc asks... a stool sample is very helpful in determining disease in the digestive tract.

Just a little summer humor.

Be well,

  1. Hi Cynthia,

I am happy to have found your blog today! I was also diagnosed with IBD (colitis) as a 14-year-old. It's funny to remember the things I was mortified at (stool samples, talking about my poop, colonoscopy - they'll see my bare butt?!) that now I can just take in stride.

I am wondering if you can write about your experience being pregnant with IBD? I would appreciate it :)
